Police grab prison escapee

ONE of two prisoners on the run in Shaanxi Province was arrested by police yesterday afternoon, China News Service reported today.

Li Baohua, 37, was arrested at a shopping mall by police from Weinan City in the northwestern province and was escorted back to prison in Hanzhong City.

He sawed through a net over a sewage pipe and broke out from the prison on Sunday with Zhang Guoxian, 38.

Li and Zhang separated and Li climbed on a freight train to Chongqing Municipality, took a truck to Shiquan County and eventually traveled to Weinan where he tried to take a taxi without paying for it but was recognized by the driver and reported to the police.

Hanzhong Police had issued a wanted circular and a reward of 100,000 yuan (US$14,620).

Li was sent to prison for drug trafficking on September 5, 2007 and Zhang was imprisoned for robbery on March 9 of the same year. Both are natives of Henan Province in central China.
