Police hold fugitive over park killing of 2 boys

Police said yesterday they had caught one of China’s most wanted fugitives, a man they were keen to interview in connection with the death of two primary school pupils.

On October 24 last year, a 9-year-old boy was found with stabbing injuries in a park in Heyuan, a city in south China’s Guangdong Province, the Guangzhou Daily reported.

Police at the scene then found two bodies in the park, of boys aged 8 and 9, it reported.

After an investigation, suspicions fell on local resident Liu Jiping, 39, it said.

The Ministry of Public Security listed Liu as one of the country’s most wanted fugitives in January with Heyuan police offering a reward of 350,000 yuan (US$ 37,407) for clues leading to his capture.

Police said Liu was caught in Ruijin, a city in east China’s Jiangxi Province. Details of his capture weren’t revealed.
