Police hold man for two fatal shootings

POLICE in east China's Zhejiang Province said yesterday that they detained a man for murdering two women shot dead in the province's Zhuji City in the past two weeks.

The man surnamed Xu, 60, who allegedly made the gun and bullets himself, had confessed, according to Zhuji City police.

Both victims, a 34-year-old accountant surnamed Jiang and 55-year-old business owner Yuan Wenmei, were gunned down after leaving a bank, police said. Xu's motive was robbery, they said, although, neither victim was robbed after being shot.

The case is still under investigation.

The first shooting was on August 23. Jiang was found wounded after leaving a bank. She was dead on arrival at hospital. The second was on August 29. Yuan was found unconscious in her car outside a bank with a serious head wound. She died three days later in hospital.
