Police hunt for daring jewelry robbers

POLICE are hunting two suspects who allegedly robbed a jewelry store in broad daylight in downtown Qinzhou City, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Wednesday.

The two men with helmets had entered the store between 10am and 11am and threatened the shop assistant before smashing the glass counters with hammers, police told China News Service yesterday.

The robbery lasted about a minute and the robbers got away with large quantities of assorted jewelry, according to the police.

The shop owner claimed the robbed jewelry was valued at around 600,000 yuan (US$94,073), the report said.

An investigation is underway.
