Police hunt for detainee in escape from hospital
POLICE are offering 50,000 yuan (US$7,323) for information leading to the capture of a detainee who escaped from a hospital in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Chen Hongzhou, 29, fled Qinzhou City No. 1 People's Hospital on Wednesday morning still wearing manacles and leg irons.
He was being treated in the hospital after swallowing a nail in the detention house.
After he made his escape, he used a cell phone to called his wife.
She arrived at the hospital in a taxi, picked him up, and drove off.
The taxi driver said the couple told him to stop and jumped out of the cab when they saw police checkpoints.
Police said more than 1,000 officers had been deployed to search the city for Chen and 80 checkpoints had been set up.
A police spokesman said that the public should consider Chen as dangerous.
He added that the police had found Chen's abandoned leg irons.
Police also issued a wanted bulletin for Chen's wife.
The spokesman said that Chen had been detained on November 20 for suspected armed robbery and murder.
The hospital Chen escaped from was in downtown Qinzhou near several schools and hotels.
The police sent text messages to nearby residents warning them of the potential danger posed by the escapee.
