Police hunt for missing wife in US
POLICE in south China’s Guangdong Province are investigating the disappearance of a woman who is alleged to have cheated her husband out of 2.7 million yuan (US$435,000) before fleeing to the United States.
The suspect, a 30-year-old named Zhang Shudan, is believed to have flown to the US on June 19, just over a month after marrying her husband, a man identified only as Li, Shenzhen TV reported.
Li and Zhang, both of whom hail from northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, met last September and married in May. Soon after tying the knot they bought two apartments in Shaanxi, both of which were registered in Zhang’s name.
Li was quoted as saying that the day before his wife disappeared, he transferred 2.7 million yuan into her bank account.
Police said Zhang boarded a plane to the US on June 19. Investigations are ongoing.
