Police hurt as pistol goes off in campus scuffle
SEVEN suspects have been detained in southwestern Yunnan Province for disrupting law enforcement as they allegedly tried to seize a gun from a policeman, causing it to go off and injuring the officer.
A teenager surnamed Zhou, 17, was caught by security guards of a school in Yiliang County on August 17 for bullying other students. Zhou's father led a dozen men to the school and beat up some teachers as he felt his son was humiliated, local media reported.
Two policemen, Li Dingkun and Wang Faming, came to stop the fight and Li fired a shot into the air to warn the unruly mob.
Zhou's father and his helpers grappled with Li trying to seize his pistol and during the scuffle the gun went off and the bullet hit Li, who was immediately sent to a hospital for surgery. The policeman is currently in stable condition.
Zhou's father and other six suspects involved in the incident have been detained as police are investigating the case.
