Police in deadlock with kidnapper
POLICE in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, are still negotiating to rescue a massage worker taken hostage by a man at knifepoint today.
Qiao Mingfei has been holding the worker hostage since the store manager asked him to leave as the business was closing around 0:40am, China News Service reported.
The man came to have a foot massage around 9pm yesterday after allegedly strangling a hotel owner, making him lose consciousness, and stealing cash, according to police.
The suspect, from Jilin's Tonghua City, was sentenced to death with a reprieve in 1994 for murder and robbery. He was released in January.
