Police intercept kidnapping in downtown Nanjing bank

POLICE in the Jiangsu Province capital of Nanjing stopped an alleged kidnapping crime in a bank in the downtown area today.

Police received a report at 1:12pm that someone had been kidnapped in a bank near Xinjiekou, in the center of the city. Officers rescued the hostage surnamed Zhang 38 minutes later, still in the bank, with no injuries other than a small scratch on his little finger.

The 37-year-old kidnap suspect, surnamed Bao, was caught on the site. Bao has a record of psychiatric problems, police said after an initial investigation.
