Police nab 102 suspects in hotel prostitution raid
POLICE in Chongqing Municipality temporarily shut down the city's Hilton Hotel after arresting 102 suspects on prostitution charges.
Chongqing police said they detained 22 of the suspects in the Sunday night raid at Hilton Chongqing. Their investigation has found that one of the hotel's shareholder was involved in a crime ring that operated sex services and sold drugs in the Hilton, China News Service reported yesterday.
The shareholder was believed to be a real estate developer, National Business Daily reported yesterday.
During last year's crackdown on criminal organizations, police had raided Hilton Chongqing twice for offering sex services. Police warned the hotel instead of shutting it down immediately because it was a foreign-invested hotel, the report said.
The hotel failed to change, thus the Chongqing Public Security Bureau shut it down.
Police started cleaning up the city's hotels on May 28. Thus far, 85 hotels have been permanently closed while 79 people have been detained, Chongqing Evening News reported.
Hilton Chongqing was also fined for allowing customers to use fake names when checking in.
Police said they believe that some cops were involved in the prostitution ring.
The case is still being investigated.
