Police nab 4,955 train ticket scalpers
POLICE have arrested 4,955 train ticket scalpers and confiscated 31,000 tickets worth more than 5 million yuan (US$759,000) as of Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Security said.
A statement on the ministry's website said policemen across the nation had broken up 1,060 ticket scalping rings in a crackdown that began in December.
In addition, police cracked down on drunk driving, overloaded vehicles and other road safety hazards.
Major road accidents claimed the lives of 44 people across the country since February 2, according to a statement released by the ministry on Monday.
Six road accidents with at least five deaths were reported nationwide from February 2 to 7, the statement said.
Most cases involved small vehicles in head-on collisions, and most of the victims were known to each other, said the statement.
