Police probe online slandering posting

POLICE in East China Jiangsu Province are investigating an online rumor which said a county cheif was the man hehind the violence involving 20 policemen who fractured the pelvis of a female government worker because she refused to have an affair with the county chief.

The rumor alleged the victim be the 40-year-old Xu Yan, the Party secretary of the Qinghu Township in Donghai County. But Xu refuted the online posting as lie, claiming someone likely attempted to ruin her reputation, envying her to be in the latest round of election for the country's deputy chief position, reported today's Guangzhou Daily.

The man who uploaded the online posting and claimed to be victim's father Xu Baoxin, accused Guan Yongjian, the Party secretary of Donghai County, of helping Xu in her promotion in return for sex. As Xu rejected Guan who was enraged and asked Sun Xiaobing, the head of local police to "teach Xu a lesson", the online posting said.
