Police probe reports of female guest nearly being abducted in Beijing hotel
BEIJING police are investigating reports that a man tried to abduct a female hotel guest in the hallway.
A video clip, captured on surveillance cameras, went viral on the Internet. It showed a man trying to drag a woman away as she resisted.
The woman, surnamed Meng, told the Beijing Youth Daily that it occurred on the night of April 3 in a Yitel hotel, premium brand run by Home Inns & Hotels Management Inc, China’s largest budget hotel operator.
Meng said the man told her to come with him as they exited from the elevator on the fourth floor. As he persisted with her she screamed for help, which is when he started to drag her, punched her in the neck and pulled her hair.
“A hotel worker was watching us, but he thought we were lovers who were quarreling. When he realized something was wrong and he got involved,” she said.
Meng said she took the chance and called the police but that did not stop the man from trying to drag Meng into the hotel room. Another woman, also a guest at the hotel, intervened and stopped the man.
He left by the staircase before the police arrived.
Home Inns said in a statement that it was assisting the police with the investigation.
