Police quiz suspect over poisonings
A MAN was detained yesterday in south China’s Guangdong Province in connection with several poisoning cases that left one person dead and four others sick.
The 44-year-old suspect, surnamed Guan, is accused of injecting rat poison into cartons of herbal tea sold at four convenience stores in Dongguan, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
Police were quoted as saying Guan confessed to the crime, which he carried out as he had “a grudge against society.”
Two of the people injured are in comas, while the other two are doing well, the report said.
Police were alerted to the case after receiving reports of people falling sick after drinking Wanglaoji herbal tea.
A man was later found dead at a bus stop with a partly consumed carton of the drink beside him.
The four people injured sought medical treatment of their own volition after drinking the tea and feeling nauseated.
