Police recruit framed for fraud
A POLICE chief has been accused of trying to frame his son's rival for fraud after both scored high marks in an officer recruitment exam in east China's Jiangxi Province.
Victim Shi Jinli received a bank receipt and several anonymous text messages urging him to deliver the "goods," but thought it was a mistake, China Youth Daily reported today.
Later he found he was on a wanted list on fraud charges when the police recruitment office was about to check his political record, the report said.
He told the newspaper that he reported the matter to police, who arrested a police officer in Jiujiang City named Yao Xianglan and his brother Yao Xinnan.
They were related to Ji'an vice police chief Yang Jinping, whose son Yang Hai came second in the exam after Shi Jinli.
Shi told the newspaper that he suddenly realized Yao had pulled off a sophisticated scheme to edge him out and make room for Yang Hai.
But Yang Jinping denied he had anything to do with the scheme, saying Yao Xianglan acted alone.
Local police refused to comment on the case, saying the investigation is still going on.
