Police release images of suspected sentry killer
POLICE in Chongqing Municipality have released pictures of a man wanted for questioning over the fatal shooting of a sentry last month.
Posters featuring six images of the suspect were distributed in Chongqing. Four of the images were from video cameras while the other two are pixellated images of a man wearing the same clothes as the suspect, a Chongqing-based Website, cqnews.net, reported yesterday.
The pictures show an average-sized man wearing a long-sleeved white top, dark trousers and a grey balaclava. He carried a white plastic bag in which he carried the automatic rifle he stole from the dead sentry.
Chongqing police also published the rifle's registration number - 13161360 - and said the gun was unloaded.
Municipal police have doubled the reward to 600,000 yuan (US$87,800) for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
Downtown police are also offering an additional 300,000 yuan reward, according to the report.
Police thought the suspect may have had military training or once served in the army. Earlier they distributed a wanted poster showing pictures of a man in uniform. The poster featured four pictures of a marching soldier and two mug shots.
The 18-year-old guard, who was identified as Han Junliang, was killed at 7:42pm on March 19 outside a People's Liberation Army garrison in Chongqing High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.
The municipality's public security bureau said it considered the case a terrorism investigation and launched a citywide crackdown on illegal firearms and explosives.
