Police rescue thousands of kidnapped women, children

POLICE have rescued 2,232 children and women and seized 19,000 guns nationwide since May, the Ministry of Public Security said on its Website today.

Thirty-four gangs were caught for making or selling guns and 78 groups had been busted for the production and trade of explosives.

Police in Qinghai and Gansu provinces worked together to crack down on a gun production den at the end of May, catching two suspects, seizing 29 guns and many component parts. Police later caught five suspects for illegally holding or trading the guns.

In the past two months police have solved 845 cases involving guns and explosives and caught 1,478 suspects. They seized 457.9 tons of dynamite, 44.7 tons of gunpowder, 19,000 guns and 794,000 bullets, the ministry said.

In a baby trafficking case covering 12 cities and provinces, Shanxi Province police rescued 52 kidnapped infants. Guangxi police rescued 50 infants from seven gangs in the period.

Police have broken up 335 human trafficking gangs, detained 2,417 suspects, saved 829 children and rescued 1,403 women from May to July 7.

The ministry launched a six-month campaign to crack down on all kinds of crimes starting in May.
