Police seek hotel owner after massive drug raid
POLICE are looking for the owner of a hotel after they caught nearly 2,000 people in a drug raid in Dongguan City in Guangdong Province, Guangzhou Daily reported yesterday
Junhuang Hotel is a favorite haunt of drug users in Zhongtang Town and people can order different drugs off a menu, just like ordering food in a restaurant, the paper reported.
Early Thursday morning, about 1,000 policemen, many armed with guns, raided the hotel's KTV club and captured nearly 2,000 customers.
Witnesses told the newspaper some of the customers had just had drugs as they looked "high" when police escorted them out of the hotel.
They were taken to stadiums as temporary detention houses, and later sent to community police stations for questioning and urine tests, the report said.
A police officer told the newspaper most of the people would only be detained for one day. But they did catch many taking drugs and confiscated drugs in the KTV club, the paper reported.
The wife of one person who was detained said her husband often took drugs in the KTV club.
"Every time I found him in the club I saw about 40 to 50 people taking ketamine, marijuana or ecstasy," she was cited as saying.
An insider was cited as saying the hotel owner, surnamed Ma, is a powerful man in Zhongtang.
Ma runs several underground casinos and has hundreds of thugs as guards, he added.
