Police seek public's help after baby snatched outside home
POLICE have offered a 50,000 yuan (US$7,323) reward yesterday for tips leading to the arrest of two men on a motorcycle who snatched an 11-month-old boy outside his home in Foshan City, Guangdong Province.
The boy, who was identified as Mi Fan, was snatched by two men wearing black clothes on a red motorcycle at about 5pm on Friday in the city's Shunde District, according to Guangzhou Daily.
His mother Yang Qianqian, who was having a bath at the time, rushed out of the house naked, but was too late to help her son.
Her sister-in-law ran out from a convenience store nearby to save the baby, but couldn't catch the motorcycle or see its license plate number.
Mi has a birthmark on the right side of his buttocks, China News Service quoted local police as saying.
Yang had bathed her two sons earlier before allowing them to play outside.
A man at the scene, surnamed Liang, told Guangzhou Daily that Mi was grabbed from his brother's hand by a man on the motorcycle.
Police said it was the first baby snatching case in the district in 10 years.
The Guangzhou Daily report said the family was from Hunan Province.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security has set up a Webpage at www.mps.gov.cn. The page contains information on 60 babies who were kidnapped, including their pictures, approximate ages, time of abduction, present location and contact details.
At least three of the listed babies have been reunited with their parents.
Authorities urged parents of missing children to get blood tests at their local public security bureau in hope of reuniting more families.
Police have rescued 2,008 kidnapped youngsters after solving 1,717 cases in a nationwide campaign against child trafficking since April 9.
Police in northern China's Shanxi Province seized 42 suspected baby traffickers belonging to a ring that allegedly sold at least 52 infants nationwide.
