Police sentry grabs armed attacker

A MAN with a home-made gun tried to attack a sentry at an armed police garrison in Guizhou Province on Sunday, the Website photobase.cn reported yesterday.

Chen Yuehai, a sentry with the Guizhou Division armed police regiment, saw a man walking toward the garrison with a plastic bag in his hand and a bag hanging across his shoulder. He warned the man as he approached but the man ignored Chen and tried to pull a home-made gun out of the bag.

Chen grabbed him, at the same time sounding the alarm. The attacker threw the gun away and tried to run but he was quickly caught by other officers. In his bag were 95 bullets, a spanner and a lighter.

The man was identified as a 29-year-old Guizhou local, named Xing Lungui.

The Guizhou Division retrained their guards after a sentry was killed by a gunman in the southwestern city of Chongqing in March.
