Police shoot Qianjiang school attacker dead
A knife-wielding individual was shot dead this morning at an elementary school in Qianjiang City, Hubei Province, local media reported.
The individual's gender was unclear. The person reportedly held a teacher at knifepoint and had what was believed to be a homemade explosive, reports said.
The kidnapper was killed after police fired four shots. No one else was injured, according to the reports.
There have been numerous attacks at schools across the country in recent years.
In December 2012, a man wielding a knife injured 22 children outside a primary school, as they were arriving for morning classes in Chenpeng Village, Henan Province.
In August 2010, a man broke into a middle school in the southern city of Nanchang and stabbed two students before fleeing.
