Police shoot kidnapper dead
A MAN who took a 10-year-old boy hostage was shot dead by police in southwestern China's Guizhou Province early yesterday morning.
The man claimed he had explosives and asked for a ransom of 150,000 yuan (US$21,970) when he took the boy hostage in Qingzhen District in Guiyang City at midnight, police said. After extensive negotiations failed, police shot the man dead at 5am and defused the explosives. They are now working to identify his body.
