Police sign backfires with poor translation
Poor English translation has made a public security bureau in eastern China a laughing stock on the Internet these days.
A police bureau in Shangrao, a city in Jiangxi Province, decorated its office with an English sign that reads: "Difficult to find police" while their intended message is "Call police if you have any trouble," the Modern Express reported today.
A netizen posted a snapshot of the sign on Weibo.com, the Chinese Twitter, last Saturday and it soon attracted hundreds of comments and has been forwarded more than 1,000 times.
While many laughed out loud at the funny translation, some said the translation actually had a grain of truth because Chinese police are really hard to find when you need them.
A bureau official said they had corrected the translation and the previous version was generated by an online translation service.
