Police smashes drug ring, 34 suspects nabbed
POLICE in central Henan Province busted a drug ring with business stretching from southwestern Sichuan to northeastern Liaoning provinces. Thirty-four members were nabbed and four hideouts where 5.1 million yuan (US$774,722) worth of drugs were made were destroyed.
Zhengzhou railway police also seized two pistols, 12 cars and more than 30 kilograms of drugs and raw materials. It was the biggest drug case they scored in recent years, the local Dahe Daily reported.
The case was also one of the big crimes listed by the Ministry of Public Security. The main suspect, Yu Shengjia, was seized on the train from Chengdu to Shenyang and he was found carrying 300 grams of methamphetamine.
Yu allegedly confessed to police that he was only a small figure in the drug cartel. With clues from him, Zhengzhou railway police captured four different gangs.
However, the seizing process was not a piece of cake, as Zhengzhou railway police said on Wednesday that seven of their colleagues used to face some danger when seizing 13 suspects in a residential apartment in Chengdu on last Dec 31.
Xu Jiuliang, deputy director of Zhengzhou railway police said when they broke into the apartment in Chengdu on December 31 last year, a man tried to pull a gun from his waist but he was quickly subdued.
Zhang Jiabin, a policeman who took part in the raid, said: "We didn't know how many suspects were in the room, nor did we know they had guns. What we did know was that it was the best time to catch them."
