Police trace hero driver's death to a truck

POLICE have found a red truck made by the Dongfeng Motor Corporation responsible for the death of a bus driver who saved 24 passengers after being fatally hit by a flying metal from the truck.
Wu Bin, the 48-year-old driver in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, died last Friday despite three days of rescue efforts. The city gave him a big funeral yesterday and tens of thousands of local residents mourned his death.
Police were mobilized nationwide to track down nine suspect vehicles caught by surveillance cameras passing the section of a highway near Wuxi, a city in Jiangsu Province, when the bizarre accident happened.
Cao Jianping, a police officer in Wuxi, told the Modern Express that a 3.5kg broken metal from a drum brake flew up from the wheel, smashed the windshield of Wu's bus and hit his chest. Cao said metal fatigue caused the substandard brake to break up.
Fan Kaizhou, a Jiangsu lawyer, said the truck driver caused the accident unintentionally and is unlikely to be charged with a criminal offence.
