Policewoman, her daughter mistakenly detained in prostitution raid
A Henan Province policewoman and her daughter were mistakenly detained as suspected prostitutes, Henan Daily reported today.
The report said Wang, a 53-year-old policewoman from Shangqiu City, went to Zhengzhou to visit her daughter and on Monday night, a group of police officers arrived at their apartment.
A videotape provided by an unnamed source showed seven to eight men men entering the apartment around 11pm after Wang saw one wearing a police uniform and opened the door.
Wang was punched in the face by one man in the video. Wang told them that they were making a mistake and showed her police ID, but the men didn't believe it and took her and her daughter downstairs, the report said.
Wang and her daughter were then taken to Wenhua Road Police Station, the report said.
Wang's daughter said they were detained until 2am on Tuesday. During the detention no one talked to them, and they were also not allowed to speak, the report said.
A policeman later told them a mistake had been made and they could leave.
Wang was quoted as saying only one policeman wore a uniform and the group had refused to show their police IDs when asked.
Wang's daughter told the newspaper that the Zhengzhou police had already apologized for the incident.
The newspaper said Zhengzhou police refused to give any details.
But an unidentified source said the officers were on a prostitution raid on Monday night, according to the report.
