AN 11-year-old boy walked three kilometers in the rain to hand over 2,000 yuan (US$295.26) he happened to find on the roadside to police in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

Yu Changshuai, a pupil with Yingxian Primary School in Chongqing's Kaixian County, picked up the money on July 11 when he went home with his cousin, today's Chongqing Evening News reported.

He said the money could be of great help to his poor family as his father needed money to cure an eye disease. Doctors said the illness could deteriorate and he could go blind without proper treatment, the report said.

But he decided to give over the money to police and give it back to the money's owner.

Yu's mother sold vegetables to support the whole family. The family is still in desperate need of money to help Yu's sister to continue secondary school, he told the newspaper.
