Pop singer held after drugs raid
POP singer Yin Xiangjie has been detained for alleged drug offenses just four months after completing a prison sentence for a similar crime, Beijing police said.
Acting on a tipoff, police said they raided an apartment in the city’s Chaoyang District on Thursday evening where they found Yin, 46, in possession of a small amount of drugs and related equipment.
They did not provide details of the nature or amount of drugs found, but said the singer later tested positive for benzedrine, which is typically found in individuals who have consumed substances such as ecstasy or crystal meth.
In custody, Yin, who in 2007 was a volunteer on an anti-drugs campaign, confessed to the illegal possession and consumption of drugs, police claimed.
The singer, who rose to fame in the 1990s with his song “Boat Tracker’s Love,” was released in July after serving a prison term for drug possession. He was arrested after police raided his home in Chaoyang and found 14 grams of crystal meth and 1 gram of marijuana.
