Popular Website sues rival over use of name

A POPULAR social networking Website is suing an opposition company for using a very similar name.

Kaixin001.com has demanded that its rival Kaixin.com stop using the name and apologize publicly.

Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court has accepted the suit filed by Kaixin001.com.

In response, the defendant Kaixin.com published an announcement on Sina.com on Wednesday saying it regretted Kaixin001.com's decision and that it will take positive measures in response.

Kaixin001.com declined to comment.

Kaixin001.com, created by Sina's Chief Technology Official Cheng Binhao in March 2008, shot to popularity by getting users hooked on games like Friends for Sale and Parking Wars. Users can also raise virtual pets and grow vegetables on virtual farms.

Similar games are on offer at Kaixin.com, which was created about six months later.

Sources said Kaixin.com's operator had offered to buy Kaixin001.com in September, but the proposal was rejected. The operator then bought the domain name Kaixin.com in October and launched its own site with similar content to the successful Kaixin001.com.

Kaixin001.com said Kaixin.com has confused its users. The company has received a large number of complaints about Kaixin.com's practices mistakenly thought to be Kaixin001.com's.
