Post office demolished
DISCIPLINE watchdogs in Nanjing City are investigating a case in which a post office was demolished by "mistake."
Officials with the post office said the building was demolished by a government management committee on Tuesday night, while the committee responded by saying it was a "mistake," People's Daily's website reported.
Employees with the post office in Nanjing's Jiangning District told the website they were shocked to see the building destroyed yesterday morning, adding letters were scattered everywhere under the rubble.
Gao Qing, director of the post office, told the website that only a motorcycle and several bags of letters remained undamaged.
Gao was cited as saying that a local management committee had told the post office it would be relocated for the coming Youth Olympic Games, but they failed to reach an agreement on compensation.
The committee cut power and water to the post office to force it to move, according to the website. Power and water were later restored, but only after the post office wrote a letter to the committee.
Sun Xiangbao, an official with the committee, was cited as saying he asked the relocation team to demolish the building, but he "didn't ask them to relocate it by force."
