Pregnant woman who fought with robbery suspect loses baby
A WOMAN who was five months pregnant lost her baby after she fought with a man suspected of robbing a girl in Jiangyin city, in east China’s Jiangsu Province, a local newspaper reported today.
The woman, surnamed Cai, was praised by local authorities for her brave deeds. The suspect and two suspected gang members were detained, said the report.
Around midnight on August 13, Cai heard somebody shouting “help” as she was having dinner with her husband at a food stall. She rushed to the scene and saw a barefoot girl in a white skirt running after a man.
She heard that the girl was robbed by three men, one of whom snatched her cellphone.
Cai got on her scooter and caught up with the robber. The man struggled to escape, punching Cai’s belly several times, the report said.
Cai’s husband followed and called police. Cai felt a strong pain when they were interviewing her at the police station.
Doctors treated Cai for a week after the accident until they determined that she could not keep the baby due to injuries suffered in the attack.
