President Hu pays respects
CHINESE President Hu Jintao went to the North Korean Embassy in Beijing yesterday to express his condolences.
Hu said it was the policy of the Chinese government and the Communist Party of China to continue to develop the traditionally friendly relations with North Korea.
Hu said Kim Jong Il was a great party and state leader, as well as a great friend of the Chinese people. The Chinese people will remember him for ever.
Hu believed the North Koreans would carry on the behest of Kim Jong Il, closely unite under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, turn their grief into strength to build a strong socialist country, and realize peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
Hu and other senior leaders stood in silence before a portrait of Kim Jong Il and bowed their heads three times.
