Price hikes mulled after Danxia joins heritage list
TOURISM authorities in areas of "Danxia landform" are keen to raise ticket prices right after their unique landscape was put on the World Natural Heritage List today.
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee decided to include China Danxia Landform, a unique type of petrographic geomorphology characterized by steep red cliffs, in the Heritage List as a natural site at its 34th meeting held in Brasilia, Brazil, the Xinhua news agency reported.
The site comprises six areas in the subtropical Langshan and Wanfoshan mountains in Hunan Province, Danxia Mountain in Guangdong Province, Taining and Guanzhou mountains in Fujian Province, Longhu and Guifeng mountains in Jiangxi Province, Chishui mountain in Guizhou Province, and Fangyan and Jianglang mountains in Zhejiang Province.
While hailing it as China's 40th World Heritage Site, tourists have to be ready for price hikes - a common trend of many previous sites after being listed.
Zhang Tong, assistant director of Chishui City Tourism Bureau in southwest Guizhou Province, said they would raise prices for visiting Chishui Mountain after the Danxia Landform is added to the heritage list.
More tourists will come and we need to raise prices to improve our services to meet to the UNESCO standard, he explained.
