Principal in trouble as students dismissed to make room for birthday bash
A KINDERGARTEN in a county of southwest China’s Sichuan Province has been criticized for suspending classes for a day on Tuesday to hold a big celebration for the principal’s 50th birthday.
More than 100 children of the kindergarten in Jintang County in Chengdu City were told to stay at home to make space for the principal’s birthday party.
More than 400 guests came to a banquet held in the kindergarten courtyard. An inflated red arch decorated the gate, saying “Happy Birthday to principal Lin Qingguo.”
The local education bureau said the kindergarten violated regulations since they took a day off without permission.
The principal, Lin, admitted that he did not report to related authorities that he planned to hold a party at the kindergarten, and they would make up missed lessons on Saturday.
It is a local custom that celebrating birthdays should not be done in advance or delayed, said Lin, so they decided to hold it on a weekday.
