A FEMALE university student in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, has been sentenced to one year in prison for blackmailing another student over a nude picture after they met online, a Website reported yesterday.
Yang Hong, in her 20s, is a woman who looks like a man in her online photograph. She met Guo Xia online last year when both were students in Nanjing, Dahe.cn reported.
Guo believed Yang was a man and fell in love with "him." When Yang asked Guo for a nude picture, she sent one.
About six months later, Guo became suspicious of Yang as she refused to meet face to face despite living in the same city.
Guo told Yang that she was ending their relationship, which upset Yang, the report said.
Yang tried to rekindle the relationship several times but failed. She then threatened to post a nude picture of Guo online. The report said Yang demanded money in exchange for not posting the photograph.
After Guo repeatedly ignored Yang's threat, Yang posted the naked picture online and asked Guo to pay a ransom.
Guo called the police. Only later did she find out that her "boyfriend" was a woman.
The report said Yang was a lesbian who had never had a girlfriend before.
