Prison officers sentenced over death
Two prison officers were sentenced up to 15 years for involvement in the death of a jailed judge who was killed after being tied to a window for 15 hours in southwest China.
The Higher People's Court in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region handed down the final verdict to Wang Wan'an, a guard at Xing'an County detention center, and Pan Dinglong, head of the center, last week, Gxnews.com.cn reported yesterday.
Wang received 15 years for murder while Pan received six years for falsifying evidence.
The court rejected their appeals and upheld the verdict handed down in December.
The two were responsible for the death of former judge Li Chaoyang, 38, who died in hospital on April 2, 2007, after he was found unconscious in a prison cell.
The court said Wang had tied Li to a window bar, causing respiratory failure.
