Prison video misses inmate's death

POLICE officers told the family of an inmate who died in custody that he died after having a nightmare. They also said his death was not recorded on security video because of a computer problem, Wuhan's Chutian Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
Li Wenyan, 50, a native of Wuhan City, capital of Hubei Province, died in the detention house in Jiujiang City in Jiangxi Province on March 27. His family said he had bruises on his forehead and suspect his death was caused by an assault by police or inmates.
Li was arrested on January 24 for stealing electrical cables. His family in Wuhan did not know of his arrest until March 30 when they were notified of his death.
