Prisoner dies after police grilling
A PRISONER in central China died after being interrogated in a police station and police officers said he poisoned himself because of guilty conscience.
Fu Gui, 40, a native in Xiangfan City, Hubei Province, was summoned to the police station on March 19 for investigation of a looting in which Fu was allegedly involved, The Beijing News reported yesterday.
Fu's family said they found fresh wounds on Fu's body and suspected that Fu must have been beaten during the interrogation. Police refused to comment on the wounds, saying the autopsy is still going on. They said Fu drank a bottle of pesticide in the toilet.
Huang Guoqiao, Fu's wife, said Fu went to the station as officers told him to. He called Huang briefly three hours after he was interrogated saying he could not bear it any more. Huang said she knew something was going wrong.
