Prize fraud leads to murder of teenager
A prize fraud was believed to have triggered the murder of a 16-year-old boy in central China's Hunan Province, local news website www.voc.com.cn reported today.
The teenager surnamed Wan was found lying dead in a pool of blood with several knife wounds in his village house near Zhuzhou City on the morning of April 30.
Police found Wan's close friend, Xiao Gang, the main suspect after questioning. Xiao later admitted that he had forged a key to Wan's house and murdered Wan around 5am that morning when Wan was at home alone.
Xiao said Wan had received a phone message congratulating him for winning a cash prize of 120,000 yuan (US$19,536) and telling him to provide his bank account information to claim the prize. The news was known to everyone in their class.
Xiao said he killed his friend just to steal his money but found nothing after the murder.
Police are still probing the case, the report said.
