Probe into official鈥檚 鈥榮evere violations鈥

LIU Zhigeng, vice governor of southern China’s Guangdong Province, is under investigation for “severe violations” of party rules, said the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection on Thursday.
In a report, Caixin.com quoted “a person familiar with the matter” as saying that officials from the CCDI had received numerous complaints about Liu from the end of 2013, including a claim that he provided the sex industry in Dongguan, Guangdong, with a “protective umbrella.”
The 61-year-old served as mayor and later Party chief of Dongguan, where sex trade was once rampant at hotels, from 2004 to 2011. He assumed his current position in November 2011.
When he was in office in 2009, Dongguan launched an 18-month campaign against prostitution, targeting thousands of people. Intermittent crackdowns followed. In February 2014, after a TV news report about the city’s hotel sex trade, more than 6,000 police officers caught 67 violators in an operation related to an investigation of Liu’s alleged “violations of Party rules,” said Caixin.com.
