Professor guilty of revenge attack seeks retrial
A medical professor, who was sentenced to five and a half months in prison for hiring two hit men to attack two science fraud-busters, said he wanted a retrial after a Beijing court rejected his appeal today.
Xiao Chuanguo, the defendant, said he didn't understand the phrasing of "creating disturbance and damaging social order" in the final verdict handed down by Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court.
Meanwhile, Peng Jian, attorney of the two victims Fang Zhouzi, a science columnist, and Fang Xuanchang, a financial journal editor, said they would also request a retrial to a higher court, claiming the sentence was too lenient as Xiao showed obvious murder attempt in plotting the attack.
Fang Zhouzi didn't attend the court today.
