Prosecutors probe the death of detainee
CHINA'S top prosecutors are investigating the death of a 33-year-old detainee who was found dead with seven broken ribs the day after he was put into custody in southern Guangdong Province.
The Supreme People's Procuratorate began reviewing the case of Lin Lifeng who Guangdong authorities said had died of sudden cardiac arrest last June, today's Beijing News reported.
Lin was detained after he kidnapped an 11-year-old boy with a knife as he was in a state of delirium, an initial investigation report said.
The next day, Lin was found dead with several broken bones, external injures and a swelling belly in a cell in the detention center in Wuchuan County.
An autopsy conducted by Guangzhou-based Zhongshan University found Lin's death was caused by heart attack, not related to external traumas.
