Prostitute died, official held
A TOP political advisor has been detained after he was reported to have bribed police and hospital staff to forge the death certificate of a prostitute.
Hao Jianxiu, a member of the national committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and CEO of a real estate company in Shanxi Province, had the death certificate forged to cover up that the prostitute died while overdosing on drugs with a coal mine boss, officials said.
Hao was detained as were more than 10 others, including police officers and hospital staff, according to 21st Century Business Herald.
Hao helped Luo Mingfu, a coal mine owner from Shanxi, deal with the aftermath since the victim died after taking drugs with Luo at a hotel in the provincial capital Taiyuan, the newspaper said.
Hao bought off senior officers with Taiyuan's Xiaodian District police and a hospital official to produce a doctored death certificate, showing the prostitute died alone.
Without informing the prostitute's relatives, the district police let the body be cremated after the hospital provided the falsified death certificate, the newspaper reported.
The bribery came to light after an anonymous tip to Shanxi's Party discipline watchdog. It said that money for bribery involved amount to 3.6 million yuan (US$576,000).
The discipline watchdog, the police and local prosecutors joined together to investigate.
Xu Huwei, deputy director of Xiaodian District police, has been suspended, and Sun Baojun, a police squadron leader, is under investigation.
