Provinces told to brace for tropical storm Rumbia
THE central government issued an disaster warning yesterday, asking local governments to prepare for tropical storm Rumbia.
The National Commission for Disaster Reduction and the Ministry of Civil Affairs jointly issued the alert at 11am as Rumbia's strength increased while churning toward south China's Guangdong and Hainan provinces.
Rumbia will be the sixth tropical storm to hit China this year. It was expected to make landfall late last night or this morning, the ministry said on its website.
The storm may also affect other southern provinces.
