Provincial legislator dismissed from office
A SENIOR legislator in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province has been expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office for violating the Party’s code of conduct, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said yesterday.
Wei Minzhou, who was vice head of the Standing Committee of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress, was found to be corrupt and to have long engaged in superstitious activities, according to a commission statement.
He had refused to cooperate in the Party’s investigation, attended lavish banquets, failed to report personal information, and was engaged in for-profit activities, the statement said.
Wei, who is suspected of taking bribes, took advantage of his posts to seek profits for others and accepted a huge amount of property, it said.
He had lost his faith in the Party and his wrongdoings were of a grave nature, the statement said.
Wei’s illegal gains will be confiscated and his case transferred to the judiciary, it added.
