Public helps clean up environment
THE country’s environmental protection bureaus in January handled 66 cases prompted by tipoffs from the public, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said yesterday.
Of the total — which were reported via the ministry’s “12369” hotline — 52 involved illegal activities, while 14 were repeat reports, it said.
Air pollution was the subject of the most complaints, with 31, followed by project examinations and approvals, the ministry said. Other cases were concerned with water and noise pollution, and solid waste.
Jiangsu, Hebei and Shandong provinces were responsible for the most tipoffs, it said.
All of the illegal activities were dealt with in accordance with the law, and the guilty parties were given punishments ranging from fines to business closures.
