Public memorial service of late movie mogul held

A public memorial service of Sir Run Run Shaw was held on Friday in Hong Kong.
Guests started streaming in at 10am for the memorial service, South China Morning Post reported.
Stephen Chan Chi-wan, former TVB general manager, reportedly said he remembered Shaw’s humour and the perfectly neat suits the man would always show up in at executive meetings.
The service will run until 6pm.
Shanghai-born Shaw died at his Hong Kong home on January 7 at the age of 107.
Run Run Shaw built a Hong Kong movie and TV empire that nurtured rising talent such as actor Chow Yun-fat and director John Woo, inspired Hollywood filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino and produced the 1982 sci-fi classic “Blade Runner.”
Shaw’s prolific studio helped bring kung fu films to the world but he also passed on the chance to sign one of the biggest names in the genre — Bruce Lee.
