Pupil-slap woman placedin custody

A GOVERNMENT worker in a northeast China's city has been detained and fined after slapping a girl, 12, who accidently scratched her car.

Wang Yan, 33, is an employee with Liaoyang City Procuratorate Office's administrative department, in Liaoning Province.

The office said a girl, surnamed Gao, was playing with classmates outside Baita District Experimental Primary School during lunch break last Tuesday when a piece of metal she was carrying left a scratch on the vehicle.

Wang was picking up her child at the school and, noticing the scratch, yelled at Gao and slapped her face twice.

When police arrived, Wang still had hold of Gao.

Wang was detained for 15 days and fined 1,000 yuan (US$146.50).

The procuratorate office also suspended her from her post. Further punishment is being considered for Wang.
