Quack doctor shuts clinic to evade law
THE clinic of a celebrated doctor of traditional Chinese medicine refused the inspection of Beijing health authorities after China Central Television reported that he faked his medical background.
Security guards of Dadaotang, where Liu Fengjun receives patients, shut the door upon officials from the Xicheng District Health Bureau yesterday, saying the clinic was closed for holiday, Beijing Times reported today.
"We will close down Dadaotang if we find it engaged in illegal practice," Mao Yu, deputy director of the Beijing Health Bureau, told the CCTV.
The local administration of industry and commerce said they will check its business license and qualifications and ascertain whether it is involved in fraud and infringement of consumer rights and interests.
The security guards said the business was closed for the New Year holiday and asked the visitors to come back after January 3. But one can still make an appointment with Liu on January 3 through telephone reservation, the report said.
Liu claimed his food therapy could cure life-threatening diseases such as cancers and he could make a diagnosis based on a patient's photos. However, his profile was fraught with loopholes and he faked his medical experience.
