Quality watchdog rules coke drinkable

The nine batches of coke, totaling about 120,000 cases, which were said to be tainted with disinfectant and sold to the market were rated safe, Shanxi Province quality inspectors said today.

The amount of chlorine in the coke produced from February 4-8 in a Coca-Cola plant in north China's Shanxi Province was within the safe limit. The test found no byproducts of chlorine in the beverage, the local quality supervision bureau said in a press conference this morning.

Quality experts judged the 120,000 cases of coke safe to drink, China National Radio reported.

Coca-Cola yesterday repudiated online allegations that the nine batches of coke were tainted with disinfectant and were sold to the market.

"Our first priority is always to ensure we provide consumers with safe and high quality products. Products from all our bottling plants are subject to strict quality control systems to ensure we are in full compliance with all relevant national laws and regulations,"Coca-Cola said in a statement today.

"Above testing results again prove the claims of a so-called insider to be false, and we reserve rights to take legal actions against it," it added.
